Which is why NFPA calls for inspection of the internal condition of your sprinkler system (every five years for most systems).

Corrosion, rust, and scale can impede the performance of a sprinkler system by reducing water flow capabilities and potentially plugging pipes and sprinkler heads.  Not to mention the integrity of piping can be diminished over time, causing leaks and possibly pipe failure.
